Coconut oil – primarily contains Saturated fat. In current scientific literature Saturated fat should be reduced in our diets. On average Coconut oil is ~90% Saturated fat, with less than 10% from Monounsaturated and Polyunsaturated fats. Compare this to Canola, Corn, Olive, and Sunflower oils which all have less than 15% Saturated fat. The Heart Foundation states: “Unhealthy fats include saturated fats and trans fats. Too much saturated and trans fat contributes to the build up of fatty material, called plaque, on the inside of your blood vessels and is a major cause of heart disease.” Cancer Australia states: "Don’t eat too much fat, especially saturated fat." Dietitians Association of Australia states: “Australians limit their intake of foods high in saturated fat” American Heart Association states: “Limiting the amount of saturated fats you eat to less than 7 percent of your total daily calories.” American Cancer Society: “Saturated fats can raise cholesterol and increase your risk for heart disease. Less than 10% of your calories should come from saturated fat.” British Heart Foundation: “Too much saturated fat can increase the amount of cholesterol in the blood, which can increase the risk of developing coronary heart disease.” With the studies that have been done and what is currently known, can so many organisations be wrong? Yes, Coconut oil has a high smoke point and is stable in food processing, but so are many other Monounsaturated and Polyunsaturated fats.........So why is Coconut oil being promoted so intensely? https://eatforhealth.gov.au/sites/default/files/files/the_guidelines/n55_australian_dietary_guidelines_130530.pdf
