From Christmas Island: We are with someone who is 11 months old They didn’t have any facilities to care for him there. No nappies, no infant food, he is fed from milk powder, the food here is so terrible and bad that even us are not able to make/cook anything that suits him. About 6 months ago he developed a bad fever and had a bad cold, when we refered to the nurse, for (then 5 month old) infant, the nurse prescribed to pour hot/boiling water into his ears to cure him. They advised that water is good for his ear ache. The managers here are the biggest liars in the world, they are good at making people lose hope. Their main goal is to convince people to return to their homes/countries. When we talk to them about the issues we have here, they reply that nobody asked you to come, if you have a problem, go back to your country. When they notice that someone has mental issues, they get the psychologist to check them out and only to find out if they are suicidal or not and keep asking if you want to commit suicide or not. Even if someone is not suicidal, they give the person the idea About 10 days ago, we had inspection from human rights organisation, since the detention centre knew of their visit, the day before the visit, after 8 months, they started cleaning up the camp (They were giving toys to little kids as a reward as they were giving them little rubbish bags to clean the camp and collect the rubbish off the floor/ground). They provided clothing to people after 8 months. On that day, they opened all the classes/workshops and provided good food. Usually they had workshops once a week. We don’t even have translators in our camp. The translator comes once a week only. You know what this mean? It means we are lower human beings We came to refuge to this country but they treat us like animals. They have used us in their own political games. Bear in mind that none of us have come here our of starvation or were poor. We came here because our people in our country they don’t have freedom of speech, in our country, prosecution by hanging is a hobby for the government. We have run away from a dictatorship country and now we are in the hands of the biggest dictators
