College football and basketball players can unionize. Northwestern won the court ruling that they are student employees and scholarships are tied to performance. Your scholarship has never been a 4 year guareented. Its really a 5 yr renewable 4 on field 1 red shirt per coaches decision per year. Unionizing means they have representation and the school must take care of injuries long term. They keep their scholarship for academics even if not on team for no bad reason or quit. Students can now negotiate for pay as a union not individuals. This is a HUGE victory for the players. This is not at the NCAA. Its at the schools. Thats who they work for.
