Colonized knowledge & structures; The structural epistemology - TopicsExpress

Colonized knowledge & structures; The structural epistemology that assumes that western countries have all the answers regarding civilization , progress, language, science, faith, ethics, democracy, medicine, law, education, ecology, development & freedom was established in colonial times. It continues today informing many of the economic ,political,& reproductive policies recommended to all, worldwide. Most former colonies operate through a dual system in all these area but with the indigenous structures often subdued, unofficial, disempowered or rejected & considered uncivilized , traditional ,savage or superstitious. Western education , medicine, law, religions, philosophies, theories, fashions, food & media continue to be sold as the universal standard applicable to all people & in all places. This works to establish a whole world as a market for western ideas & services. Nevertheless, economists have tabulated the adverse impacts of World Bank & International Monetary Fund Policies on so-called developing countries. The recent project to grant North American Freedom & democracy to Iraq is part of this larger colonial & colonizing story that has been such a deadly failure. The global approach to HIV & AIDS is no different. Western understanding of HIV & AIDS & western approaches to its prevention, became the standard for vastly different contexts worldwide . Twenty five years after the first scientific discovery of HIV & AIDS , it is important to ask: What is lost when HIV & AIDS prevention policies , that do not factor in the indigenous African world view & values, are put in place in Africa? Tackling HIV & AIDS without African Indigenous values & cosmology
