Columbia University will conduct the semi-annual test of its text - TopicsExpress

Columbia University will conduct the semi-annual test of its text message notification system on Friday, March 7. The test will be broadcast mid-day to those who have enrolled in text message notification. The test message will contain the text: TEST: This is a test of the Columbia text notification system. No action is needed. You do not need to take any action to acknowledge receipt of the test message. The semi-annual test provides familiarity with text message notifications and allows us to assess and improve the system on a regular basis. Text message notification is one of several mechanisms that the University will employ in the event that we must communicate urgent information. During an emergency, messages will also be posted to the University and Medical Center homepages and emailed. REGISTER NOW IF YOU HAVENT DONE SO ALREADY I want to encourage anyone who has not yet provided a mobile phone number to do so by Thursday afternoon, March 6. Each of you may register one mobile number for emergency text message notification. The University does not use text messaging for anything other than emergencies, and this semi-annual test of the notification system. Students can enter mobile phone numbers securely and confidentially through SSOL. Log in to SSOL at https://ssol.columbia.edu. Under “Academic Records,” select “Text Message Enrollment” and enter your mobile phone number. Faculty and staff can enter mobile phone numbers securely and confidentially through myColumbia.
