Comanche Legend HOW A MAN FOUND A NEW LOVE WITH HIS FLUTE By: Mary Ann Mabes There was a man who had suffered greatly..one by one his four children and his wife had died...In sorrow he wept very bitterly for many months..When the tribe moved camp, he would set his tipi away from the others so as to not disturb them with his crying for his family..one night he had a dream. He was told that his spirit was in danger of breaking from his mourning..He was told to release his sorrow through music..For many days he thought about the meaning of the dream. One day while he was walking in the woods he heard sounds coming from the cedar groves. Some of the cedars had died and their branches had holes where the woodpeckers had drilled holes. Each time as the wind blew..It created a sweet sound..Remembering his dream about his sorrow and music...he took inspiration from the cedar branch with the holes and set forth an instrument to release his sorrows...Later he made a flute..The energy he had put into his tears and sorrow went to creating music...Music of beauty and love..In doing this he saved his spirit...
