Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care. Today, if only you would hear his voice, (Psalm 95:6-7 NIV) I am haunted by the line in this psalm: Today, if only you could hear his voice. What might he be saying? I dont think it is that I need to do more, make more money, accomplish more or be successful. Instead He might be saying, You are tired. Why do you run so hard with no margin? Or perhaps He is saying, I made that sunset just for you today. Just because I can and to let you know I love you. Or is it possible that He is saying, Your wife needs you to engage at a heart level. Or is that Him saying, Your son is struggling; He needs you to affirm Him. And it must be Him saying, The kingdom of God is coming; how are you taking care of the least of these. I long to hear Him say, Well done my son and My peace I give to you; not as the world gives; but a peace that surpasses all understanding. And could it be that it is He that is saying, I am all you need. Rest in me. Give me your anxiety. My heart is full of hope that distant whisper I hear is Him. Speaking to me. I stop. I silence my heart. I strain to hear above the roar of the business of my life. And I wait. Because perhaps today I will hear that sweetest of voices.
