Come to the City of Portland, Portland Building lobby at 1120 SW 5th Avenue from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM this Friday, June 14, 2013 and meet social practice artists, Patricia Vazquez Gomez and Betty Marin, who will have a Q&A session about their artwork there. "Welcome," their installation, is about the connections between the City of Portland and the lives and experiences of some of Portland’s newest residents. The project explores the ways that Spanish speaking newcomers feel both welcome and not welcome here in Portland, and is grounded in the artist team’s work with Latin American immigrant communities and their own cultural roots. The installation uses projected images of new Portland residents being interviewed by the artists, presented against a “wallpaper” backdrop of texts crafted from those conversations. The installation can be seen through June 28, 2013.
