Comfort those that mourn. Sunday, March 9, 2014 10:07 PM Matt.5:4. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted Sometimes Gods word is so hard to except and other times its very easy to follow. The church usually is the one who makes things difficult. This week I have been to three funerals and talked to a lot of sick people. Having comfort to give the hurting is a very challenging task. I hear so many of our canned church answers and while they may satisfy some people with me they just don’t work. We say at funerals that they are in a better place now . While that may be true the ones left behind still suffer the loss. Why not just say Im here and I love you or even sorry you are hurting. We say to the sick that God knows what best and his ways are not our ways. I really struggle with this one because it sounds like God made us sick to teach us life lessons. God teaches us through his spirit and mostly through his written word when it is revealed to our heart. When I was in the coma and hearing people pray I knew good and well most were not in faith. I knew very well that most were in fear and unbelief. I prayed each time I heard fear or doubt and said Lord that wasn’t me praying that mess and I don’t believe what they just prayed. But even with the wrong prayers and the doubt fear and unbelief I did glean something from each visit. I took away from each visit a mind and heart full of love. I absolutely didn’t agree with most prayers I heard prayed over me but I really needed to know how much I was loved. Why havent we as the church ever learned that love never fails? 1 Corinthians 13 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. ... If you have read any of my post then you already know how important faith is to my life. This verse says that if you have faith enough to remove mountains and have not charity or love then you are nothing. In my life I have been known for faith but if I have tried hard at doing anything right it is loving people. And now I know firsthand the power of love given to me from people. I couldn’t die and hurt all these crying people. I knew very well that God loved me of this I had know doubt. People loved me out of fear doubt and unbelief. I knew how healing operated and the principles of faith. But a life of failure and self-doubts had created a lot of wrong thinking about me as a person. Faith will always move what ever mountain that people are facing. But faith worketh by love. Galatians 5:6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love. Be strong in faith because in life you are going to need it. Don’t think faith will stop the test and battles of life. Wisdom is usually what stops the trials and battles of life not faith. If faith will not help the hurting then what will? The answer is simple and never fails its called love. When comforting them that mourn try this Say I love you Say Im here Hug someone and mean it. Hold someone tight. Stand there and let someone cry on your shoulder. Simply hold someones hand. If we the church worked as hard at loving people as we did fixing people then we will become the victorious church that God shows us in the Bible. I think we have it backwards with what we focus on and what we put forth great effort developing if it isnt love we are working at then we have missed the mark. I guess when I do pass people will say here was a man of faith and that’s good. But I want my friends to step up and say yes he was but he was even greater at loving people. Man you should have seen how Todd loved people that’s why his faith worked. That what I desire from those that really know me to say about Todd. Love will come with sorrow though. Love has a burden with it. If you love then you will always try and figure out how to help people Isnt that really the job of the church to help people? Get a burden for those that mourn and those that hurt and then show up. It is your job as the church to love people and it should be what motivates you each and everyday. Faith is Gods greatest activator. Love is Gods greatest motivator. Combine them both and them you have great power.
