{Common Eating Issue- FREEDOM EATING} Today I was talking to a mom who was feeling a bit defeated about her struggle to eat sensibly at the end of the day. She showed me a typical day of eating which was relatively healthy followed by a snack fest at night...*after the baby was asleep*. THIS IS SOOOO COMMON AMONG MOMS AND THERE IS A SOLUTION! I call this practice *Freedom Eating*- the uncontrollable seemingly random habit of eating everything crunchy and starchy when the day is finally over. ==>HERES WHY IT HAPPENS: There are multiple reasons that range from physiological to psychological but the biggest reasons are: #1: Not eating enough higher quality foods (protein and vegetables during the day) as we rush around chasing the children and running errands. #2: Not building in some type of stress relief during the day. By the end of the day you have ZERO energy and ZERO willpower. #3: Not having an end of day relaxation ritual that doesnt involve food so we look to food to help us relax. ==>TOP WAYS TO BEAT FREEDOM EATING: #1: Start with getting in protein rich meals and snacks. #2: Find at least 10 minutes for yourself midday to take the edge off before you are completely drained. #3: Establish an end of day relaxation ritual. When my son was an infant, my nightly ritual was a warm bath with hot tea and a book- it worked wonders (and yes that meant some nights the dishes werent washed BUT I was sane and not raiding the pantry).
