Comolli claims are wide of the mark Damien Comollis attempts to rewrite history continued this week. Liverpool’s former director of football claimed that it was the £16million signing of Jordan Henderson which ultimately cost him his job at Anfield. “When we signed Jordan Henderson, he got so much criticism, I got so much criticism,” Comolli said. “I was never told why I was sacked but I was led to believe it was because we signed Jordan Henderson, and the owners were convinced he was not good enough.” The fact that senior figures at Anfield had doubts about Henderson’s ability to cut it at the highest level is no secret, especially after he struggled so much in his first year at the club. But the idea that Henderson got Comolli the bullet is laughable. It’s interesting that the Frenchman, who is clearly desperate to get another job at a top club, focused on a player who has since gone on to establish himself and prove his worth. If Comolli really wants to know why he was shown the door he might want to focus on the contribution of Andy Carroll, Stewart Downing and Charlie Adam. Three players who cost £63million and ended up being off-loaded for a third of that price. echo/pearce
