Compline - On the reception of the Holy Communion: “There should never be an empty or dull moment at the reception of the Holy Communion.” Reception of the Holy Communion should never be routine. We do not receive the Body in a vacuum; with no special intention. There are many means by which we can make our communions more fervent. At the moment of reception, with the Body of the Lord still in our mouth, we may pray for ourselves to acquire one virtue or the other. I especially pray for the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit and for the opportunities to exercise them for the glory of God. We may also pray for other things such as: conversion of sinners, fallen away Catholics and non-Catholics; for souls in purgatory especially those whom no one remembers; for success of Catholic missions; for our brothers and sister undergoing persecution all over the world. We can also bring joy to Jesus by offering Him a communion of adoration, thanksgiving or reparation. There should never be an empty or dull moment at the reception of the Holy Communion.
