Compline - Part of the Homily preached on Sunday on the Miraculous feeding of the 5000: “There is no difficulty in this life that Christ cannot solve. This is the Christ Jesus Who fed 5000 men, not counting women and children, with only five loaves of bread and two fish.” It is in times of trial that we need to believe and firmly put our trust in Christ. The power of confidence in God ought to inspire hope in us. If we retain our hope and confidence in God, our fervent and persevering prayer will certainly open the gates of grace to us both in the spiritual and temporal orders. Yes, it is when all seem to be lost, that our trusting heart experiences the indescribable love of God; we are changed interiorly and begin to trust to walk with Christ alone. At such times, Jesus feeds and heals our trusting heart and we are enabled to perceive reality with new eyes. There is no difficulty in this life that Christ cannot solve. This is the Christ Jesus Who fed 5000 men, not counting women and children, with only five loaves of bread and two fish. Unfortunately for most of us, our faith disappears when we find ourselves in deserted places. We panic, as did the Disciples, and begin to worry because we lack trust in the power of Christ. This should not be so.
