Compline – Reverence is not exclusive to any particular rite: - TopicsExpress

Compline – Reverence is not exclusive to any particular rite: “If a priest chooses to offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in a manner that lacks reverence, then it is a manifestation of the priest’s carelessness and poor spiritual state than the character of any particular rite.” How many of the critics of the so-called Novus Ordo actually know what the acronym G.I.R.M stands for? I am certain not many. The acronym stands for General Instruction of the Roman Missal. It is the Church’s official document that lays down the rules on how the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass should be offered. I would counsel all those that ignorantly criticize one rite or the other to go study this document. Only then would they come to understand that reverence at mass is not the attribute of any particular rite but an individual quality that comes naturally to any Catholic, clergy or laity, that has a proper understanding of the wondrous supernature of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. If a priest chooses to offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in a manner that lacks reverence, then it is a manifestation of the priest’s carelessness and poor spiritual state than the character of any particular rite. A part of the Statement of Intention prayed by the priest before offering the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass reads: “My purpose is to celebrate Mass and to make present the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ according to the rite of the holy Roman Church…etc” And this holds true for all the valid rites of the Church including Novus Ordo or the Syro-Malankara rite.
