Confessions of a conservative; (Respect for others opinions) Most people think differently, many using logic predominately based on their feelings while others use a more scientific or mathematically reasoned thought process. Although I have a deep respect for those who feel and care deeply about a variety of issues, I find it difficult to respect opinions that have no basis in reality and have been historically proven to be flawed. History is probably our greatest teacher. It has already been tested with the flaws of human nature and the results are conclusive when analyzed with an unbiased eye. I have little respect for solutions or opinions that fail to recognize the flaws of human nature. “Can’t we all just get along” without borders and simply accept everyone’s religious and personal beliefs???...... It has never been done successfully since the dawn of time. Those who believe they can mould human behavior to make a more perfect world with laws, education and government intervention are relying more on their feelings than the realities and the flaws of human nature. This is where my conservative logic usually departs from most liberal logic. The human world, just as nature and the animal world, is harsh. I dismiss efforts continually trying to shield and make everything fair and equitable in the human world as unrealistic and pure folly. Survival of the fittest is as relevant today as ever and strength is essential for survival. No amount of wishing or good will can alter this reality. The progressive influences in our schools over the last forty years reflect the effects of minimizing competition and discipline. It has been a colossal failure to anyone who objectively analyzes the results. The conservative’s failure has been simply watching the gradual take-over with no resistance.
