Conflict in Ogun Labour Pary over choice of 2015 governorship flagbearer Two powerful choices have refused to stand down, one for the other. The Labour Party, LP, in Ogun State has encountered a brick wall in trying to select a governorship candidate for the 2015 general election, PREMIUM TIMES investigations have revealed. The party’s current problem has to do with the zoning of the candidature to the Ogun West Senatorial District. The choice of Ogun West, which was initially deemed genuine and reasonable, was based on the fact that since the creation of the state since 1976, the zone is yet to produce a governor. Ironically, the “wise” decision has now become a headache as controversy has erupted over which of two “powerful” choices, Abiodun Akinlade (member House of Representatives) and Gboyega Isiaka (former Governorship Candidate of Peoples Party of Nigeria, PPN) should be selected. The ambition of the duo has divided the party into factions. Both are defectors to the party: Mr. Akinlade from the All Progressives Congress, APC, and Gboyega Isiaka from PPN. According to sources within LP, the duo, considering their popularity within the party, have decided not to step down for each other. They, however, insist in public that there is no rivalry between them. As at the time of this report, non of the party executives was willing to comment on record on the alleged conflict within the party. Premium times
