Congrats & Best Wishes to our former teenaged New Amsterdam Bank employee Anil Beharry, who was last Sunday elected President of the Berbice Cricket Board. Anil has a variety of practical experiences in the cricket game & in administration. He was a sturdy aggressive opening batsman for the Bank in his youth & a solid team player. He, unlike some others, ascended to this important office by a horizontal rather than a vertical movement, having gradually moved, over the years, through various posts in the Boards executive, thereby acquiring useful cricket administrative experiences that ought to serve him well. Moreover, his practical experiences, within the boundary, will be an asset as he ought to be better able to understand, appreciate, empathize & serve the needs of the players, who are crickets engine of growth and the real producers of the wealth of the game. This is a1986 photo of a young Anil opening the batting for GNCB, with me vs. the touring Barbados National Bank at the police sports club ground in G/town. To the members of that GNCB cricket team who may be unable to recognize the current president Anil, I do hope this photo helps to recognize our young opening batsman of yore. Hope it also inspire young cricketers to emulate Anils growth & development in this Educational Institution of the Cricket game in our native land. Go forth with confidence, Anil, and create a legacy, which posterity could emulate with pride. As one who served on the Berbice Boards executive during my stint of community service in Berbice & have cherished memories of Berbice Cricket, news of its progress pleases me.
