Congratulations are in order It is with great honor that I share with our readers and friends that congratulations are in order. Mike and I successfully defended our dissertations this past week and we received the congratulatory handshake from our committee, and were addressed for the first time as Dr. Mike and Dr. Linda McNair. We completed four years of study from Argosy University (accredited university). Argosy University has several campuses throughout the United States and we choose the Sarasota Campus. We completed doctoral program in College of Psychology and department of in Pastoral Community Counseling. We had so many wonderful people during this awesome journey that encouraged us and made sure we did not give up. Thanks to you all!! What is Pastoral Community Counseling? The ability to merge theology and psychology for psychotherapeutic purposes. Pastoral counselors are leaders who see the need for not leaving God out of helping people who are hurting and not discounting psychotherapy education. Pastoral counseling has evolved from religious counseling to pastoral psychotherapy which integrates theology, knowledge and other faith traditions, knowledge, spirituality, the resources of faith communities, the behavioral sciences, and in recent years, systemic theory. It is time for professional counselors not to leave the spirituality out of the problem solving technique. Spirituality should be a part of the change agent. As a pastoral counselor it is important to be a part of a bigger organization. The American Association of Pastoral Counselor- AAPC Mission Statement The mission of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors is to bring healing, hope, and wholeness to individuals, families, and communities by expanding and equipping spiritually grounded and psychologically informed care, counseling, and psychotherapy (2012 Retrievedaapc.org/). It only makes sense that religion and psychology - each of which is concerned with the total person including the body, soul and spirit, all - should be recognized as partners, because they function as partners within the human psyche, said Dr. Arthur Caliandro. The Future Mike likes to refer to us as “Love Doctors” because of our calling and passion for marriages and relationships. And we have taken advanced training in several marriage therapy disciplines. I have been certified in IBCT Therapy, with Andrew Christensen (Mike received the training). Mike has completed all three levels of Gottman Couple Therapy and is seeking certification (I took the first two levels). We also see a huge need to serve teens and even pre-teens with programs and education to prevent the easily predictable issues we see so frequently. We’re excited about the next chapter in our journey in the Kingdom of God and understand that it means reaching out to various groups and different ages and stages of relationships. With God all things are possible. Keep us in your prayers. Our new title is: Rev. Dr. M. Mike McNair, MA, Ed.D. Dr. Linda McNair, MSSA, Ed.D.
