Congratulations to MY husband for making Assistant Fire Chief and achieving yet another one of his goals, time line and all! A lot of people that think my husband sits around all day at the station and only puts out fires and rescues cats out of trees. For those of you that do not know what he has done to achieve this goal please read on... For the past 15 yrs he has been a FIRST responder. He has responded to his share of building alarms, car lock outs, babies locked in cars, car crashes, suicides, domestic violence calls, and delivered a baby. He has rescued people and bodies from the ocean and confined spaces, saved a cat from a tree and fought his share of fires. He has brought life into this world and has seen it end right before his eyes and has had to help clean up the aftermath. He has done this job while serving overseas, while getting shot at increasing his risk of dying even more than what is already accepted as normal for a firefighter, to save a stranger or fellow airman. He is no longer active duty, but he is still a fireman. He is always striving to do better for his fellow fireman. He embodies what the fire brotherhood is really about. He does this job, that most of us could never do, because he loves it more than anything in this world, aside from his family. And he is damn good at it....he is MY husband, the father of my children, and he is now an Assistant Fire Chief...and it doesnt matter if its with the County, the city, a volunteer, or Federal...they are all REAL firefighters, Assistant Chiefs, and Chiefs, all REAL calls, REAL people, and REAL situations.
