Thoughts are not a problem: When thoughts appear neither reject - TopicsExpress

Thoughts are not a problem: When thoughts appear neither reject nor accept them. Do not try to stop thoughts, allow them to arise, but recognize their arising and do not pursue them. Just be quiet and the see the thoughts arising and sinking. The goal is not to have no thoughts but for thoughts to arise, allow them to pass through and yet be rendered powerless. You must habituate this. Then later when negative thoughts and emotions arise you will not fall under their power. The energy of these thoughts may arise but will not affect you in one or the other way. So do not try to stop thoughts, just relax into the nature of awareness. Thoughts are never a problem but the assumed owner (I) of thoughts is! Usually we take this thought and we say, “It’s my thought. I wan’t to plan for tomorrow. What should I do tomorrow. I’m thinking about practice.” But actually it’s just a thought. They are building, because we are paying attention to the thoughts. We are unaware and the thought’s take control and build stories with one thought over other. They are just thoughts. Thoughts as such are not a problem. It will come and go. And then other thought might arise “Working”. Then that one goes. So you can see thoughts are not illusions or any problem at all but the “me-thought” attached to each thought is an illusion. First the thought comes, second comes an I that pretends to assume the arising thought. We were conditioned to think that there is a me having this or that thought and this or that is good or bad. Please see the stream of thoughts carefully. This is a very subtle analysis. Let us take the example: A thought arises in head – “Tomorrow”. It’s a simple thought arising and being attended or reported to mind Immediately, within moments, in fraction of second another thought jumps in “What should I plan for tomorrow” Next thought continues in the same speed, “Well I will try to work out this” Another, “How long I will keep thinking without working” “I need to finish it, do it perfectly and understand and close it. Can’t keep reading it again and again” This is how the thought stream flows. The first thought is pure perception. It’s called idam vritti, this thought. The next few thoughts have an I in them ... they are called aham vrittis or I thoughts. First the thought comes, it is perfect, second comes an I that pretends to assume the arising thought. I jumps in and starts reasoning & planning & concluding. They all are centered on the illusory “I”. The thoughts are not illusions but me-thought attached to each thought is an illusion. The first thought came, the second, the third came and gone. The other thoughts in reality have no link between them. A series of static thoughts. They create an illusion of a continuous “I”. Really they are just series of frames, series of static thoughts creating an illusion of a continuous “I”, a sense of me. Really there is no one to plan, to finish, to be sad, happy, confused, thinking etc. We become or feel sad, happy, confused etc because we get into flow of thoughts and imagine a continuous “I” spanning all these thoughts. Just look and enquire, Who is this “I”? There is nothing, just a sense of presence, there is nothing called me. Just see for yourself, what is this “Iam”, look at I, just get curious what is this “I”, where does this “I” feeling arise? It is just series of “I” thoughts. Who is thinking? Who is planning? Who is wanting to finish other than these thoughts arising and passing? When we enquire to look within to see “who voice” is this? We will find there is no one who will really represent this “I”. Thus Remain Awareness, Still and Quiet.
