This past Saturday, I had a catastrophic failure of the #2 (right, from pilots perspective) engine on my Me262. See the pics. The pictures are taken from the intake point of view, with a light shining in the intake and then a light shining in the exhaust. The first two are pics of the normal engine. The second two are the failed engine. That thing made a sound I never want to hear again in my life. SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECH...BANG! It is clear that the drive shaft sheared in half. Perhaps too cold? It was 12 degrees F outside. And at 135mph, I guess the wind chill was @ minus 24 degrees F. I did allow time for the engines to warm up at idle, then a high idle. And, I calculated that use of fuel. Or, perhaps the entire fan blade housing contracted and sort of squeezed the fan. Then that busted the shaft and what was left of the fan flew off and lodged into the side of the nacelle. All of the damage was confined to the interior of the engine nacelle. There was no blow out or fire. Either way, I dont ever want to experience this again.
