Congratulations to the Winner of Who is the Longest-Serving Clerk of Superior Court of Liberty County? Contest! Congratulations to Petra Prgomelja of Hinesville, winner of this office’s Who is the Longest-Serving Clerk of the Superior Court of Liberty? contest. Ms. Prgomelja won the $100.00 prize after her name was chosen at random from the pool of many contestants who correctly identified F. Barry Wilkes, the current Clerk of Superior Court of Liberty County, as the longest-serving clerk of superior court in the county’s 238-year history. Wilkes, the 26th elected clerk of superior court of Liberty County, has served for 30 years (beginning on January 1, 1985), although he also served as chief deputy clerk and ran the office for two years (1983 and 1984) for his predecessor in office, Robert Kitchings (deceased). Kitchings, the 25th clerk of superior court of the county, has the second-greatest years of service, (26 years) serving from 1958 through 1984. Elijah Baker, the county’s eighth clerk of superior court, served 23 years (from 1812 through 1834); D.I. Dawson, the 21st clerk, served 22 years (from 1915-1936); and R.M. Ryon, the 22nd clerk, served 16 years (from 1937-1952).
