Consider two way to give cell phones to all Indians --- one is to have Indian engineers manufacture everything from chips to PCBs to LCD , and also optical cables needed to interconnect towers, and make switches and cell phones which are all 100% made in India. And another is to call Vodaphone via FDI to put cables and towers, and then import cell phones from Nokia and China. IOW, there are two ways for much hyped words --- development aka growth. One is make everything locally, and another is just import. Much of development seen in Gujarat and rest of India is just import. Much of the manufacturing is just screw driver assembly. eg the nokia plant in chennai does NOTHING but soldering and screw-driving !! All PCBs LCD and even housing etc imported. The second FDI\import model growth is trivially easy. Just hand over whole of economy to MNC=FDI and everything will boom in 1-2 years. Even Dubai and Brunei have achieved that. And even Philippines has better growth than India. The first model of growth is hard. Because it requires activists to reach and convince voters to force MPs to print law-drafts that will enable scientists, engineers and technicians to work in a way that no criminals, no self certified social workers, false labor cases etc harass them, and harassment from govt officers is minimal. It requires activists to go thru pages and pages of law-drafts and spend hours and hours in reasoning on them. And activists will have to spend real money in printing newspaper advt and pamphlets to inform commons about these law-drafts. And when movement starts, those who oppose these law-drafts may also use violence against these activists. While the second FDI-based model of development is simple. The activists only need to wear cap or mask, and then dance like cheer leaders. The only problem with FDI-based model of development is once MNC-owners have taken over economy, they will also destroy maths science education, and local religions. And they will convert nation into nation of clerks, entertainers, low tech technicians etc etc. So solution I propose is that activists should focus on law-drafts and NOT on neta-andhbhakti , slogan shouting, mask wearingm cap wearing, jhadu weilding etc. And activists MUST NOT donate money to political parties, but instead collect funds and give advertisements in newspaper and inform voters about law-drafts needed to control population, reduce Bangladeshies, improve courts, reduce harassments to industrialists etc. via - rahul mehtaji
