Constant nagging to complete a task, backtalk, fits, hitting his - TopicsExpress

Constant nagging to complete a task, backtalk, fits, hitting his little brother, not siting at the dinner, I could go on and on....we are living the lives of a 3 year old, but I want to give anyone else out there hope!! A huge thank you to Debbie Yehnert White for recommending the Love & Logic book. I am currently on chapter 4 and feel like it is going to change our lives!! I have to admit though, I am really bad about finishing these types of books so I have requested the...get this...DVD from my library!! Seriously, a DVD parenting guide- every parents wish for a Friday night am I right? Snuggle up when the kids are in bed and have a beer and learn how to be a better parent while praying that you dont fall asleep before the good part!! But seriously, this book has some really fantastic information that I feel reflects how I see my role as a parent as well as how to raise a successful kid. Lets face it, that is basically my greatest accomplishment or failure, and if you know me you know I sure as heck dont like to fail! The second thing we did was start up our positive reinforcement chart again. We were definitely reaping what we were sowing here...lots of negative talk from us leading to negative behavior from him...not exactly rocket science, but a hard habit to break. SO, instead I bribe....with Luigis Pizza. Yes, I am talking out of two side of my mouth when Im promoting a healthy lifestyle and then taking my kid to Luigis, but Ill have to deal with that parenting error later. For now, it works! We have the chart on the fridge. Every time he is caught doing something good (you pick what your kiddo is struggling with) he gets to make an x or check mark in the box. When the whole chart is filled with xs or checks then he gets to go to Luigis!!! (I didnt forget the parents in this!! each x = 1 beer, see fun for everyone!! totally joking ;)) This I pretty much made as a hybrid of several blogs I read with moms who did something similar. Here is the chart for you to use and let me know what you think!! Any other ideas that you all have had success with? I love that I was able to get so much direction from everyone and a few laughs!!!
