Construction Update: October 2, 2014 VTrans would like to keep you informed of construction activities related to the following projects: · I-89 Bridges Project · Waterbury Roundabout · Bolton - Waterbury US 2 Reclaim Project · Northbound (NB) Off Ramp Signal Project · Stowe Street Sidewalk · Waitsfield-Moretown-Duxbury (VT 100 Preventive Maintenance Paving) Thank you in advance for your cooperation. With foliage season approaching and several construction projects underway, motorists are reminded that the roads and highways around the Waterbury area are open and passable. At times, travel may be reduced to one lane in the construction areas with traffic control personnel maintaining traffic flow. Waterbury Roundabout Project AOT Project No: STP SGNL (18) Project Location: Intersection of Routes 100/2 in Waterbury. Week of October 6, 2014 Crews will continue to construct the south side of the roundabout and work along Route 100SB outside of traffic. Traffic may be interrupted for short durations while trucks and equipment access the construction areas. Crews will also start to work on installing street lighting in the new Post Office parking lot. Maxi’s Restaurant/Post Office Access – Motorists accessing Route 2EB and Route 100NB from Maxi’s Restaurant and/or the Post Office will be required to use the new access on Route 100S. A traffic signal will control traffic exiting the new access. Motorists wanting to access Route 2 WB can continue to use the Route 2 entrance. Left turns out of the Route 2 access will be prohibited. Roundabout Traffic Pattern – The Route 100/2 intersection is located on the north side of the Roundabout. Three traffic signals control traffic entering the intersection; one at Route 2 EB, one at Route 2 WB/Route 100 NB and one at Route 100 SB. · Route 100 NB Traffic Pattern – Route 100 NB traffic is controlled by a traffic signal. Motorists must yield to oncoming traffic to turn right on red. · Route 100 SB Traffic Pattern – The Route 100 SB traffic pattern consists of two southbound lanes serving as turning lanes for Route 2 East and Route 2 West. The two lanes enter the north side of the Roundabout with traffic signals controlling traffic turning onto Route 2. Route 2 EB traffic turns left and uses the inside lane of the Roundabout to Route 2 east. Route 2 WB turns right and shifts to the outside lane of the Roundabout to Route 2 west. · Route 2 EB and WB Traffic Pattern – Travel from Route 2 East and West is alternating one-way traffic controlled by traffic signals. Route 2 west shifts to the outside of the roundabout after the signal. Route 2 East uses the inside lane of the Roundabout. Motorists should be aware that turning right on red from Route 100 SB onto Route 2 West is prohibited during construction. New traffic signs have been installed near the intersection. This traffic pattern will remain in effect until approximately late-October while the south side of the Roundabout is constructed. Traffic – Traffic delays can be expected throughout the week. Bolton-Waterbury (US 2 Reclaim) AOT Project No: STP 2709(1) Project Location: Route 2 – From Parro’s Gun Shop in Waterbury west along Route 2 to just beyond Latham Trailer Sales in Bolton. Estimated completion is late October 2014. Saturday, October 4, 2014 – Crews will continue installing new guardrail from the Bolton/Waterbury Town Line to Jenny Davis Road. Travel will be reduced to alternating one-way traffic throughout the construction zone. Week of October 6, 2014 Crews may complete the leveling course paving and start the final paving from Bolton Valley Access Road to the Bolton/Waterbury Town line. Guardrail operations will continue working between the Waterbury/Bolton Town Line and Jenny Davis Road all week. Due to the expected increase in traffic volume over the Columbus Day holiday weekend, no work will be performed from Friday, October 10th through Monday, October 13th. Work on the project will resume Tuesday, October 14th. Traffic – All work will require alternating one-way travel around the construction area. Traffic control personnel will be present to assist in maintaining traffic flow. Motorists should anticipate traffic delays. Please allow for extra time in your travel plans. Northbound Off Ramp Signal Project AOT Project No. NHG SGNL(43) Project Location: The Northbound Off Ramp Signal Project is located at Exit 10 at the intersection of I-89 and VT100. Week of October 6, 2014 Signal work may occur mid to late week. While this work is occurring, the signal will be turned off and traffic will be directed by Uniformed Traffic Officers and flaggers. Due to the expected increase in traffic volume over the Columbus Day holiday weekend, no work will be performed from Friday, October 10th through Monday, October 13th. Work on the project will resume Tuesday, October 14th. Traffic – Minor traffic delays are expected this week. Stowe Street Sidewalk AOT Project No. STP EH10 (20) Project Location: Stowe Street project limits extend from the Thatcher Brook School to Lincoln Street. Week of October 6, 2014 Crews will continue installing new sidewalks, curbing, and drainage in various areas between East Street and the Thatcher Brook School. Travel will be reduced to alternating one-way traffic within the construction zone. Traffic: Traffic delays can be expected throughout the week. Waitsfield-Moretown-Duxbury (VT 100 Preventive Maintenance Paving) AOT Project No. STP SURF(39) Project Location: The Waitsfield – Moretown – Duxbury VT 100 Preventive Maintenance Paving project limits begin 2.4 miles north of Warren/Waitsfield town line (Fiddlers Green) and extend to the intersection of US 2 in Moretown for a distance of 12 miles. Saturday, October 4, 2014 – Crews will continue paving the final lift of new pavement from north of Waitsfield Village towards Route 100B, weather permitting. Travel will be reduced to alternating one-way traffic with flaggers present to maintain traffic flow. Week of October 6, 2014 Waitsfield Village – Crews will continue adjusting the height of manhole covers, water valves and drainage inlets in anticipation of final paving. This work will continue throughout the week. Paving - Paving crews will continue final paving on Route 100 between Waitsfield Telecom and the intersection of Route 2 in Moretown. All paving is weather dependent. Due to the expected increase in traffic volume over the Columbus Day holiday weekend, no work will be performed from Friday, October 10th through Monday, October 13th. Work on the project will resume Tuesday, October 14th. All construction operations will require alternating one-way traffic within the construction zone. Traffic control personnel will be present to maintain traffic flow. Traffic: Traffic delays can be expected throughout the week. I-89 Bridges Project AOT Project No. IM 089-2(43) Project Location: The I-89 Bridges Project is located at Exit 10 on I-89 in Waterbury. Week of October 6, 2014 Crews will continue excavating to construct the I-89 Exit 10 SB spur in the area between the I-89 Exit 10 SB On and Off ramp. Traffic flow in the construction area will be interrupted for short durations while trucks and equipment enter and exit the construction area. Flaggers and uniformed traffic officers will be present to maintain traffic flow. I-89 Crossover Work – Mid-week, crews will start construction of the crossovers on I-89 in preparation for the bridge construction in 2015. Daily closures of the passing lanes through the Exit 10 area of I-89 will be required during daytime hours. Motorists using Exit 10 SB on ramps are advised to use extreme caution and yield upon accessing I-89 southbound. With daily passing lane closures through the Exit 10 NB and SB area, thru traffic will be restricted to use the travel lanes only. Speed limits will be reduced to 50 mph through the construction zones on I-89 NB and SB. Please focus on safety when driving through the construction work zone.
