Construction on the new Malayan tiger habitat is coming along! Have you seen it yet? You can check out the progress any time, as it undergoing construction to more than double in size. This comes as we thank our newest corporate sponsor, Braman Motorcars Palm Beach & Jupiter. Through a multi-year commitment as lead corporate sponsor, Braman Motorcars will support the Zoo’s tiger health and wellness, education and daily operations in the expanded exhibit habitat. Their sponsorship will help continue the Zoo’s tradition of providing quality care and a natural habitat for its resident tigers. The Zoo’s two Malayan tigers, male Keemasan Mata and female Berapi Api, both reside in the Australia/Asia section of the Zoo, which is where the new habitat will be located. Construction began at the beginning of 2014, and is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Zoo officials are hopeful Mata and Berapi will have tiger cubs, and the two tigers have been paired since February through a breeding recommendation made by the Tiger Species Survival Plan (SSP) of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). Zoo officials said each tiger birth is critical to help preserve the species from extinction, as scientists estimate fewer than 500 Malayan tigers exist in the wild. Every tiger cub born will contribute to the genetic diversity of the Malayan tiger population and species conservation efforts.
