Content of Discipleship Gen1:3; if you want to know why Jesus rose on the third day go to Genesis. Primary purpose of God concerning His disciples is to live a life that shines as light in this dark world (John1:4, 5; John1:35-39, 43-46). Discipleship is not about bible study, it is not about holding meetings, it is a process. It begins when you get born again and it continues throughout your life time. It is systematic, it is cumulative, and it is what God want to do in our lives line upon line, precept upon precept until we come in the unity of faith unto a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. Discipleship is not run by topics and sub-topics; it is a life that gradually grows its root in obscurity like a plant, deeply rooted in the soil not minding how long it will take that life to be firmly fitted in obscurity. It is not a life that is in a rush to climb pulpit after three months of training. It must be polished after the similitude of the palace. It took our Lord Jesus three complete years to train His disciple, why are you in haste to manifest. What do you know that you want to preach? The gospel touch is a light, the weight of which is heavier than the entire earth, how on earth do you think you can carry it? Except you are very close to the Master Himself. The more you drift from him the heavier the touch becomes and you will be forced to drop it and replace it with Philosophies and rudiments of men. You must learn the principle that follows discipleship. It’s impossible to be a Christian without following the Lord consistently as a disciple (Matt16:25). You must accept the fact that the Lord, whom you are following, knows more than you, and He is right, He is the way, the truth and the life and the Bible is the supreme book of God. Everybody is a disciple of one kind; you are a disciple of whoever you are following, whoever you want to be like, whoever is fascinating you. We are only asking God not to make us a disciple by default. When you don’t make a conscious decision to follow the Lord Jesus Christ, then everybody around will disciple you whether you like it or not. You will be a disciple by default. Discipleship is not that program where we gradually remove all your sins one by one. Discipleship begins with a definite conversion experience. Somebody comes to Christ, surrenders his life and God by His supernatural act remove the seed of sin from inside of him, and plant the seed of faith on the good ground in his heart, and make him grow in His presence. Disciple must have a rest from sins first. If you are in a fellowship where they tell you it doesn’t matter, that is why everybody is struggling. They are just confirming to you that they are still struggling with sin in their lives. They are servants of sin. To whom you yield your body to serve as a slave, the servant of him you truly are, whether of sin or of righteousness. If you check the graph of their life, it is Multi-hyperbola; there is no truth in them. Present day challenge is, the false prophets believe that the church must be a mixed multitude comprising of both good and bad people in it. By appealing to Jesus’ parable of the wheat and tares (Matt. 13:24-30), overlooking the fact that Jesus parable of the wheat and tares was not a reference to the church but the entire world system, even though there are mix multitudes in the church also. The rest that God promise is found as you begin to learn of Him (Matt11:29). ‘Your neck must carry a yoke’ with the Lord, you must be yoked with Him. Don’t be compelled to carry the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ like Simon of Cyrene, whom we never heard of after that event. Discipleship is not by force, it is by choice. That is why the children of most preachers become vagabonds, because they are not allowed to make a choice. They were compelled to respect church attendance and the order of service. We must realize discipleship is not a matter of compulsion; we must teach our children the way of the Lord and allow our audience to make a conscious effort to follow the Lord. People’s experience of genuine conversion makes them crave for ‘Truth’ in the place of ‘doctrine’. It makes them crave for the ‘living’ instead of ’life’ itself. They will be thirsty for ‘Holiness’ instead of ‘high rank’. Instead of ‘Peace’ they crave for ‘felicity’, instead of ‘life’ they long after ‘Eternity’. God says in Gen18:19, I know my friend Abraham, for he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment… God knew. Abraham will keep His commandment. How about you? Did He know you? People like Emperor Caesar Flavius Constantine, who represents the passing of the Age of Catholic Christianity and the beginning of Christianization of the empire (312-590 BC) and the imperial interference in the affairs of the church, was a very good example of a disciple. People like Paul the Apostle in the New Testament. Have you surrender all? Those who surrender all know themselves. They are the true disciples. Come to the cross today, He will cleanse and purify you spotless, blameless, sinless and faultless. You shall be free indeed.
