Cook Road Verses Juban North Extension Livingston Parish is in need of new roads and improvements to existing roads but lacks the funding to do so. With limited funding I believe they should select projects that offer the most benefit to the citizens of the parish. But are they doing that? Let’s look at the two roads that have been in the media the past couple of weeks. Cook Road Extension and Juban North Extension. The first road is Cook Road. Cook Road runs from Pete’s Highway and runs parallel to I-12 almost to Greys Creek. It is a dead end road with very few residents and business located on it. Some of your elected officials feel this road is our top priority and it’s important enough to spend 11 million dollars to improve it and extend it to the Juban Crossing Development. These elected officials already have engineers designing the project. Why would they want to spend your tax dollars on a road if its primary purpose is only to benefit the developers of Juban Crossing? Does this make sense to you? Can you believe that your elected officials think this road is the top priority of this parish? I can’t imagine any elected official looking you in the face and telling you that this road is a top priority of this parish. Haven’t they done enough for the Juban Crossing Developer? The Livingston Parish Council is currently being asked to spend $300,000.00 on this project to keep it moving forward. The second road is Juban North Extension. Juban North Extension would start where Juban Road ends at Hwy 190. It would run north and end at the intersection of Burgess Road and Lockhart Crossing. This road would provide so much traffic relief for residents on Lockhart, Burgess and Arnold Road. Go to your Google Maps and look at this area and make sure you have the satellite terrain turned on so that you can see all of the subdivisions that would benefit from Juban Extension. It’s my opinion that it would be the equivalent of the new Central Thruway in Baton Rouge. Why wouldn’t elected officials such as State Senator Dale Erdey, State Representative Rogers Pope, Parish President Layton Ricks and the Parish Council make this road a priority? I don’t understand how the elected officials can honestly want to spend your tax dollars on Cook Road that will primarily serve Juban Crossing and not want to fund Juban North Extension. There has to be some rhyme or reason to their thinking. Keep in mind that they want to spend your tax dollars on roads that don’t benefit you. Now I have tried to start being more open minded and willing to listen to others and their views. This story is mostly my opinion of what is currently happening with these two roads and I hope someone can convince me I’m wrong. I hope there is some reason that someone can give me that will change my mind and help me understand why our elected officials want to spend our tax dollars on a road to a shopping center.
