Cork u14s advance to an All Ireland date with Kildare. Cork 4-16 Galway 1-08 Cork U14s put in an impressive display in their All Ireland Semi Final game against Galway in Mungret on Sat 8th June to secure a place in the All Ireland Final on June 22nd. On the day Cork had too much for a gallant Galway team who struggled to compete with the firepower and teamwork of a Cork outfit who were always in control of the game. On a beautiful sunny afternoon it was the Cork girls who settled earliest as they opened up a four point lead before the Galway girls opened their account in the 10th minute. Cork continued to dominate the possession stakes taking a firm hold around the middle sector and were denied a couple of goal chances by good saves from the Galway keeper as the half progressed. A Galway goal against the run of play reduced Cork’s lead to a single point at the midway point of the half but the young Rebels responded in the best possible manner by raising two green flags to regain the initiative. In hot sunny conditions the Cork girls continued to show a great work rate all over the field as they chased every ball and pressurised their opponents with some outstanding blocks from backs and forwards. A third Cork goal on half time stretched their lead to 3-8 to 1-5 leaving the young Galway girls with a mountain to climb in the second half. Three points early in the second half put the game beyond Galway’s reach but they continued to battle bravely and were denied goals on a couple of occasions by some excellent saves by Cork Keeper Georgina Gould. Cork continued to press and were rewarded with some fine scores as the second half progressed running out deserving winners on the day by 4-16 to 1-8. Cork will now meet Kildare in the Final on 22nd June. Leinster Champions Kildare defeated Cavan in the other semi by 4-12 to 4-4. Well done to the girls and the team management Cork G.
