Corruption Article - 46 Date :21.08.13 This is a very critical item in our life on which each one one has his own view . In our body level we want food , comfort and lust . In the mind level we want name , fame and power . We know that Mind is superior to the body . All of us want all these aspects easily without much effort . This is due to the laziness . Due to the uncertainties of the future we have fear . This fear coupled with desire of name/fame/power (controlled by mind ) , we try to accumulate wealth as much as possible at any cost justifying survival issue . For accumulation of wealth , much effort like hard work , knowledge , capability , focus , discipline etc are required . It is difficult to acquire such qualities and moreover our personality is as per our mind . We know that , our mind consists of , all our past experiences , emotions , conditioning , thoughts and actions . That may not bring all the above qualities to accumulate wealth easily . So our mind prompts us to take the shortcut (so called unethical) paths to mint wealth . Shortcut paths at times gives wealth and many times there is failure . The shortcut paths also may bring punishments , harassment , criticism , isolation etc from society which shall create stress , ill health , emotional disturbances etc . Though we know that the sorrow is coming due to the these shortcut paths adopted , our mind always prompts that we should take further shortcut paths like bribing , using power/force , using lust , telling lies , hiding , cheating , using malice etc to overcome the problem . This is a vicious cycle of Desires/Accumulation/Suffering and using shortcut path . We are not aware that , these are happening due to our karmic layers . Our karmic layers are creating situations , associating us with the same or similar people (as in the past) , generating appropriate desires etc to go through the cycle of suffering . No amount of moral teaching and punishment will help . This will like treating AIDS induced fever with paracetamol . This is not treating the disease but it’s symptom . Because mind will always prompt to take shortcut paths to escape . But there is no escape in this route . This is a vicious cycle and we will be rotating round and round without knowing that we passing through the same/similar types of events . The urge for this so called illegal wealth and power is so high due the characteristics of the mind that , no amount of teaching , law , punishment etc can prevent it . Then the question is what is the solution ? This is a very important question . Now please ask yourself who is needing this solution . I need solution for myself or solution for others . Mostly (as per our mind) the solution required is for others . Because mind says I am ok . All others are wrong . In the same logic all are right and then who needs solutions ? It is like blind people are leading other blind . Is there any meaning in it? Can they go anywhere? Most of the people do not know what they are saying or doing . Let us read the following story . There was a king and he was living happily in an area . There were one well outside for public use and there was another well inside king’s palace for his own use . One magician once came and put some material in it and said that , those who will drink this water shall become mad . People were not having any choice and they drank water from that well and became mad . As they were mad they forgot about their position and became naked , started singing , drinking and dancing etc . The King became worried and asked his minister for any solution . The King and the Minister went to the people and started advising them that , what they are doing is wrong and they should stop doing this . This is not good for them and also for the country . The people saw the king and the minister are talking in a different way (different from them) .They discussed that their King and the Minister have gone mad and something should be done to them . So they tried to cure them with black magic and other means . The King and the Minister ran away from that place with fear . The king asked his minister , what is the solution ? The Minister said , let us go and drink the water of that well so that we all will be mad . There will not be any difference between them and us and so they will accept us . Most of us are also mad people like them where each one is blaming the other as mostly all of them are doing the same illegal things . The only difference is that we all have different minds . One clever mind is trying to make fool of the other mind without knowing that almost all are fools moving round and round in a cycle called life . The only solution is that , we should ask ourselves : 1.Am I aware about myself? 2.If yes , am I worried about this corruption ? 2.Is it affecting me ? 3.If yes , then what needs to be done to me to end the suffering ? 4. Is there any solution available for me ? 5. If yes , am I pursuing that solution for my own transformation first ? Unless these questions are not arising in our mind voluntarily due to any reason , there will not be any scope of any self-transformation possible . These questions come only to some gifted few people due to their past karma . Without self-transformation (started voluntarily) , corruption will be there till the human race cease to exist . Till such time we will be beating around the bush with many novel ideas by politicians , philosophers , academicians , intellectuals , clever citizens etc by putting fingers at each other to eradicate corruption . Then what is the role of the people who are not corrupt ? They should not get stressed by seeing the corruption in the society. They should continue to do their own work honestly/sincerely/hard working way and wholeheartedly accept the outcomes without any grumbling . It may be putting them in uncomfortable situations . That is part of life . Cows and snakes , Tigers & Deer , Bitter gourd and Sweet potato , Grass and Banyan tree , Tulsi and itching leaf , orange and lemon , Sadhu and Thief , Killer and Saviour , etc (though are quite different) have to exist side by side and we have to live with them . This is the grand design of the Universe/Nature . By denying this ,we are welcoming suffering . The question should not be why they are there ?, but how do I live blissfully in reality ?. Ideally the people who are corrupt should only suffer and they are also suffering as per the terms and conditions of the nature . Why do the honest suffer for the wrong of others ? It is foolishness . We should do our duty with honesty/sincerity and accept the outcomes wholeheartedly even it is not beneficial at times , train our mind to the positives of this universe , ignore the irritants outside like avoiding mentally sick people and live blissfully like the lotus live in filthy mud without the traces of dirt in its beautiful flower and leaf . Though it eat and live in mud and water , these materials can’t even touch it . The world is like mud water and we should live here blissfully like lotus . R.P.Rath Ahmedabad 9227233330
