Could my praying friends take a minute and ask God to bring peace and relief to a crazy situation. There is a public elementary school called La Paz in Villa Nueva, just south of Guatemala City. The post in Spanish by Pastor Jorge Cerritos says that the gangs are demanding a $6.50 per student payment....sort of like protection shakedown. This school has seen a lot of really good stuff happening...the teachers are diligent, and have been partnering with US teachers to improve their ability to give quality education to some of the poorest students in Guatemala. Jorges church has been supporting the education process by giving classes in values and bible principles. They pray weekly with the teachers and students. It is an urgent need....but also is so demonstrative of the difficulties facing the poorest families. Can you imagine the response to extorting a public School in the states? The education ministry and local police are not capable of defending against this type of menace. What are the teachers and parents to do?
