Council is currently reviewing its approach to commercial activity - TopicsExpress

Council is currently reviewing its approach to commercial activity on the citys ocean beaches. To participate you can register your opinion at: goldcoast.qld.gov.au/council/commercial-activities-on-ocean-beaches-21321.html One of the recent commercial activities on our beaches involved the new Quicksilver Roxy Pro event manager, ASP, posting signs at the event entrances advising: You cannot use any image footage content moving or still or audio of the event site, a surfer, a competition area any ASP or sponsors name logo or brand product or service for commercial purposes. Do you think it appropriate that ASP will not allow you to use your photos of a public place or a wave in a public place for commercial purposes if they are taken within the event area? I was alarmed when the signs went up, so I asked our legal department for an opinion. I was told that, as council had given ASP control of the site, effectively it was up to them. However, in future years and in future festivals and events it should be possible to place restrictions on such prohibitions if we, as a community, decide it is not appropriate for one commercial entity to dictate to another what public assets they can photograph and use commercially. I look forward to hearing your views on all matters commercial, so that they can inform policy making. Please register your opinions at the Have a Say site by April 11, so that they can be considered. Responding to this post on facebook will not get your view counted in the consultation process, so by all means post but also make sure you use the site.
