Court orders Osun commissioner to pay N5.5m to landlord LAGOS — Justice Oludotun Adefope-Okojie of an Ikeja High Court has ordered the Osun State Commissioner for Youths, Sports and Special Needs, Mr. Stephen Kola-Balogun to pay the sum of N5.5 million to his landlord in Lagos, being unpaid arrears of a rented apartment between August 1, 2009 and April 2012. In her judgment, Justice Adefope-Okojie ordered the commissioner to pay the sum within seven days of the delivery of the judgment. Justice Adeniyi Adetokunbo-Ademola of Federal High Court, Abuja, the owner of the rented apartment in Ikeja G.R.A. had dragged Kola-Balogun and his wife, Taiwo, before the state high court for failure to pay rent arrears of an apartment located at 51C, Oduduwa Crescent, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos. Justice Ademola in his process had claimed that the commissioner and his wife had refused to pay the rent arrears despite repeated demands, adding that the commissioner also refused to give up possession of the property despite a quit notice to that effect. The plaintiff further stressed that the commissioner had never paid house rent as at when due since the first payment resulting in substantial rent arrears over the years. To this end he prayed the court for an order directing the commissioner to vacate the property as well as pay the arrears up till the time he parks out of the house.
