Cost of each event is separate and reservations MUST be made by calling 651-437-7055 for each event. For members of Dakota County Historical Society the cost is $18 per person and for the general public $20 per person for each event. Butch Thompson began his musical career with piano lessons at a very young age. In high school at Marine-on-St. Croix in the early 60s, he and his band, Shirt Thompson and His Sleeves, a quartet that included a snare drum, clarinet, piano, and washtub bass, always managed to squeeze in a few jazz tunes during school dances. Thompson, a former longtime member of the Prairie Home Companion house band, has been unwavering in his love of Jazz. After playing with a few bands he was hired to play with the Hall Brothers, a New Orleans style band, that played at Bradys Bar on Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis. He was under-age so his parents created a document that made the bandleader his legal guardian during working hours. After two years of service in the Army, Thompson became a feature at the Emporium of Jazz in Mendota and this stint continued for 25 years. He went on to be a jazz consultant on Broadway and toured with the hit, Jelly Roll with the Music and the Man through 1997. In addition to extensive touring he has traveled the world from Cairo to Tokyo, as a soloist and with his trio and eight-piece, Jazz Originals Band. Today he finds time to write and teach, with his writing appearing in various magazines such as Downbeat and The Mississippi Rag. His teaching credits are residencies at the American University in Cairo and the New England Conservatory of Music. Make reservations early to secure seating to hear this artist who has earned a first-class reputation as traditional jazz and ragtime master. Call 651-437-7055 to make reservations for both the concert and the tea. The LeDuc Historic Estate is owned by the City of Hastings and managed by Dakota County Historical Society.
