Cover Letter for employment Abstract: The last ten years of my life have consisted of a multitude of unique experiences that have stemmed form a decision to pursue a career in major motion pictures as an actor. It stems from years of exhau...stive training, writing, performing, and auditioning. At certain times I have had to move from one location to another mainly to receive shelter to supplement low income, which is a result of being an artist. As an artist please allow the following resume to be accepted and permissible, separate from the normal standard. Working as a server I was able to experience working with some outstanding professionals. I will use my experience at The Chardonnay for example ranked in a publication as one of the top one hundred French steakhouses in the world. I was regularly paired with an outstanding French server named Pasqual. I remember Pasqual and I were dressed in our tuxedos waiting for the crowd to come in so we could serve. It was quiet. He became very still, looked me in the eye, and in a very subtle French accent turned to speak. I turned from staring out the window. I was pleasantly surprised when he said, “you’re a star.” I felt the same way about Pasqual. I was privileged to work there that year. I also worked at Shula’s Steakhouse twice in Naples close to a year each time. I had one goal in mind and that was to save money to get back to Hollywood so I could pursue my dream. That was my objective. I got along with everyone there. As you review this resume please keep in mind that I was well known. I was a defensive tackle for Notre Dame playing football through college. During an interview with the Los Angeles Times after making a switch from being an athlete to that of an artist I said “ I want to speak a message”. What I meant to say is that I want to speak a message in the movies much like Meryle Streep of Daniel Day Lewis. I was taking an intense acting class at the time and maybe the writer thought I had much interview experience. The truth is even though I played football on national TV I was not interviewed much. I would not say it was ignorance that led to that quote but rather miscommunication of my true intentions. I should have said, “hey, I’m really enjoying this acting class and it excites me with thoughts of being able to do that in the movies you know? You see, it came out in the sports page. The only means of expresion offered to me at the time when struggling to get promoted. Even though I had a sociology major from a school regularly ranked with the ivy league, maybe I missed that people might have a hard time separating sport and art if an article about art is put in the sports page. Not understanding the depth of true desperation at the time, in my own way, I felt desperate and under appreciated. A metaphor if you will. The peeling off of a Campbell’s soup label that has been artistically adjusted by Andy Warhol. T.S. Elliot said it best in his poem entitled, “The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock”. Several stanzas down he wrote, “”That is not it at all, That is not what I meant at all.”” I was 24. Ten years have gone by since and those years included much pain and psychological torture as I shower my forgiveness to the whole world for my foolishness. At the same time maybe it was necessary for lessons. My follies have been put on display, subtley and redundantly which is an understatement. I desire to work hard and as long as it takes, several months or years in order to save money to chase my passion. I believe what I have become is a professional server only by the showering of grace and the applying of knowledge from my past experiences. The same could be applied to retail.
