Cow Cud ~ Words The old saying goes: “you cannot judge a cowboy by the shape of his hat”. Well . . . at least that is my old saying although the phrase may not have made it to the main stream media yet, it still has a lot of merit. You cannot determine the worth of a person just by looking at their hat. Whether they choose to wear it in a flat manner or the more popular West Texas style of the taco look one cannot really assess the value of a person by their looks. Instead we should look at their attitudes . . . their abilities and their actions and take the focus off their appearance. In many circles comparisons of folks based on their looks and our personal opinions rather than truth can often lead to heated debates and often end up causing quite a bit of dissension. This can be true whether it be in the ranching world or the yuppie world. It is not the words or looks of a person that matters but rather it is the status of their heart. We see many people inside and outside of churches today that look like they belong however when an examination is done on their very being you come to realize they may need a heart transplant. Realistically . . . only the Trail Boss upstairs can actually know the condition of one’s heart so we should refrain from talking about others or judging and look inward to our own well-being and focus on that condition. As a pastor I have received many forms of correspondence and have saved most of them to help me recall different events in life. I have come to realize and feel that we should all strive to remember that words can cause divisiveness and words on paper can never be retracted. It is a constant reminder to be careful of what we say and how it is presented . . . especially to a lost world. Happy Trails! Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. Proverbs 12:18
