Cross Country 2014-15 Summer Reminders for Cross Country WHAT TO DO Establish, or maintain, a routine of running regularly. The best runners I know train Monday-Saturday, and rest on Sunday to allow their bodies to recover (and to prevent over training-related injuries). Make sure you eat right. Get adequate amounts of protein, fat, and carbohydrates each day. Hydrate! Drink water all day, so that your body can perform at an optimum level. Challenge yourself with new routes, new distances, new speeds, and new running partners. Work on strengthening your core each day. Evaluate your running shoes, and begin planning for the shoes you will wear in-season. Check in with the coaches, or the team websites, regularly for updates or events. WHAT NOT TO DO Do not wait until the first day of practice to start running. Do not get careless with your diet or hydration. Do not do the same thing, at the same speed, every day.
