Cultural custom From Northern Epirus (Greek: Βόρειος - TopicsExpress

Cultural custom From Northern Epirus (Greek: Βόρειος Ήπειρος, Vorios Ipiros) when an infant visits a home for the first time - as 40 days have passed - the child is given a gift of a bowl, cup and spoon along with 3 small, symbolic bags: rice (never go hungry), money (financial support, of which, at least there must be one silver coin for δύναμη, strength, so they grow up strong/tough) & wool/cotton (they may live til a ripe old age with white hair). For the first 40 days after birth, the mother and child stay home so as to recover, bond and avoid illness. This gift is given by a host because it is seen as a great blessing for the household to receive an infant after its 40 days because the child has just been Churched (taken to Church for the first-time for a blessing as done in the Old Testament).
