Curious what alla yall think about people who feel compelled to constantly trash-talk the economy and latch onto every negative thing they can find that validates their deeply held opinions. Had a round with some of them last night and it was rather scary. Certainly, things are not getting better at a pace anyone is comfortable with and there are many, many reforms still needed that were not even talking about. But people going on about the Labor Force participation rate without even knowing that its dropping mostly because of retirement right now or arguing that the climb in workers on disability didnt happen is exhausting. This particular argument started with someone in a tizzy because of an AP headline that were back to even in jobs after 6 years (2 down, 4 up) saying that without seasonal adjustment were not actually there yet. OK, dude, wait until June to have the party then, yeesh. But the implication is that seasonal adjustment is nothing more than a scam to cook the numbers, which is ridiculous - and includes many people outside of government such as ADP. When confronted on this the counter is always, These numbers are all fake! The point of this Sunday rant is that Im curious how many people I know really think the economy is not getting better at all, as opposed to getting better far too slowly to be overjoyed by it. And Im curious what your sources are for this - personal experience, friends & family, or a source in the news. Because I see a heavy concentration of those who insist on trash-talking the economy on the right side of aisle, and while motivation is always hard to identify it does seem to be all about political gain for their side at the expense of the Obama administration - and in this case all of America.
