Current status: Vulcan Substation transformer fault impacting eMalahleni, Thembisile and Dr JS Moroka Municipalities Eskom teams are continuing with repairs on the faulty transformer at Vulcan substation. One of the transformers at Vulcan substation failed in the afternoon of 06 November, while a second transformer had been on planned maintenance since 04 November. Eskom is continuously reviewing the situation and pulling in all specialists and resources to expedite the completion of the repairs on the transformers. Municipalities that were impacted by some interruptions yesterday, 6 November, include eMalahleni, Thembisile and Dr JS Moroka. Due to the severity of the fault on the transformer, as well as the added rainy weather conditions in the Vulcan area, the power system is projected to remain severely constrained over the weekend of 7 – 9 November. During this period, consumers are requested to help reduce load by switching off non-essential appliances in an effort to reduce the risk of implementing rotational load shedding in these areas. Eskom apologises to all affected customers. We will provide further information once we are in a position to do so.
