Customs and Border Patrol dedicates, cuts ribbon on new Presidio housing PRESIDIO – Customs and Border Protection held a ceremony on Tuesday to dedicate new housing for Customs and Border Protection (CBP) employees. The 29 homes include 24 two-bedroom units and five three-bedroom units. Ana Hinojosa, Director of Field Operations El Paso spoke at the event along with Acting Deputy Chief Patrol Agent Victor Velasquez, Big Bend Sector. Jim King, Director of Design and Construction, Special Programs Division, of the General Services Administration and Dan Bartlett, Vice-President, The Hunt Building Company also spoke at the ceremony. Master of Ceremonies was Paul Baranowski, Chief of Facilities Management and Engineering, CBP. The open-concept housing units include two full bathrooms, a two-car garage, Energy-Star rated stainless steel appliances and modern interior finishes. Thoughtfully designed to be climate appropriate, energy efficient and durable, the new homes will use approximately 75% less energy than existing units. An analysis of the housing prototype design and performance estimates that tenants could save as much as $190 per month in utility costs. The master planned community site includes shared centrally located recreational space with three picnic pavilions, a sand volleyball court, a basketball court with lighting and a covered bus stop, as well as walking paths throughout the housing area. The housing project is the fourth in recent years for federal employees in Presidio, and is located north of the Presidio Border Patrol station. Three site-built home projects preceded the newest addition, while a fourth housing project consists of manufactured homes. CBP’s Mission Support Facilities, Housing Branch managed the construction of the facilities. The housing was constructed by Hunt Building Company.
