Cut in tuition fee excites EKSU students In what many students described as the greatest end of the year gift, the recent announcement of reduction in fees payable by students of the Ekiti State University (EKSU) by the state Governor Ayodele Fayose has continued to draw widespread excitement and joy by students of the institution. Shortly after the announcement of the reduction in tuition fee from N50, 000 to N30, 000 was made by the government, EKSU students have been in a sort of celebration that may continue to linger for some time to come. Governor Fayose who had earlier made a promise to review fees paid by students of the university made good his promise at the maiden broadcast of MEET YOUR GOVERNOR transmitted live of the state television. He said he arrived at the decision based on his love for young Nigerians to have unhindered access to tertiary education, saying that the management of the university has also consented to the new fee regime. However, the governor emphasized that cut in tuition does not affect other sundry departmental fees like; departmental fees, sports, library, field trips and identity card and other requirements which fall under the category of other charges remain. In another development, a 200 level undergraduate student of the University, Uthman Alalade has been crowned the regional champion (South West) of the One Mic Stand competition organized by Airtel Telecommunications Company. Alalade, a music writer, singer and Psychology student defeated other participating universities from the South west zone of the country with his beautiful lyrics and fascinating musical style. Apart from the emerging in the first position, the EKSU ambassador also won for himself a KIA Saloon Car as reward for the outstanding performance. In the comedy category, another EKSU undergraduate, Adedayo Ajagbe known as ‘MC Prof Old Skull’ came top and won a one year endorsement deal with Airtel. Receiving the victorious students already branded Airtel Ambassador in Southwest Nigeria on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Patrick Oladipo Aina, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Victor Adeoluwa commended them, saying that they have written the name of the university in Gold.
