Cycle Safety on our Roads - Campaign by NCG (Nantwich Cycle Group) - TopicsExpress

Cycle Safety on our Roads - Campaign by NCG (Nantwich Cycle Group) continues to build awareness to the dangers faced by cyclists against Car Drivers. Given the sad news this week about a local man getting knocked down and killed near to Nantwich its seemed an appropriate time for this post. Motor cars were classed as carriages in the 1903 Motor Car Act; bicycles were so classified in 1888 Both have equal right of carriage (the lane) technically the bicycle has had this right longer than the car. Cyclist stay to the left out of courtesy not because they have to. PLEASE CLICK LIKE or SHARE or even Tweet a link (https://facebook/nantwichcycling) to this post to spread the word Car Drivers on the whole are courteous to cyclist as indeed cyclists are to them, we stay to the left, we try to stay in single file on narrow roads, we wave drivers through when in a group. If it is going to be safer on the roads car drivers need to understand why cyclist do what they do and realise it is safer for them too, we dont do it to hold you up or annoy you. I am sure Car drivers dont want to live with the guilt of killing someone one day or crashing into a car coming the other way along with mowing down a group of cyclists in the process. 1. Cyclist Cycle in twins - This is the safest way as it means the car drivers have to overtake properly rather than squeezing past using the cyclist carriage the car should over take in the same way as the over take a car when it is safe and legal to do so and in the opposite lane, when they have enough time to get past safely. Just as an added point if there are a group of 10 cyclists and they are in pairs you only have to get past 5 bikes if they are in single file this is 10 not as easy to do safely. 2. Cyclist move out from the left - This is usually because the road is to narrow and they anticipate drivers wanting to get past but the cyclist feels at danger as the road is to narrow so moves out to ensure drivers dont try to get past. 3. Cyclist avoid pot holes - Sometimes cyclists move out to avoid a pot hole, car drivers should not be overtaking in the cyclists carriage anyway, but watch the cyclist and they will help you the car avoid pot holes to handy little tip. 4. Car Drivers need cyclists to stay together in a group, when cyclists ride together they should not have small gaps between them this makes if harder for Cars to get past safely as the distance is longer, cyclist should either stay grouped together or keep a distance from another group. 5. Car Drivers would appreciate hand gestures to help them get past and advised to stop when they cant safely get past. 6. Cyclist be aware of car drivers needing to get past and be courteous. This video sums up just how bad things have got on the road for cyclist, please show some consideration on the roads whether you are a Car driver or a cyclist we share the legal right of carriage on the road. https://youtube/watch?v=GRMf6HftCzM Be aware, Be considerate and be Safe!
