DAVE MATTHEWS BAND One of the biggest and consistent touring acts since The Grateful Dead, Dave Matthews Band had humble beginnings in the music town of Charlottesville, Virginia. Originally consisting of a drummer, saxophonist, and guitarist/singer, the band needed to add more depth to their lineup. They recruited violinist Boyd Tinsley to play the fiddle for the song “Tripping Billies.” It was determined soon after that Boyd’s violin fit well with the band and he became a permanent member. The band played frat houses and other small venues for a couple years in the Virginia area until they received a major record deal and released their successful commercial debut “Under the Table and Dreaming.
