DAY 244 – SEEK SPIRITUAL MEANING ------------------------------------------ In reading the Word we must look for the spiritual meaning, rather than the literal. The Jews overlooked the spiritual meaning of the Word of God, that is why they couldn’t even recognise Jesus as the Son of God, and as a result they missed the hour of their visitation. God prefers that we should care for other people rather than observe any ceremonial laws. The Jews should have passed beyond the outward into the spiritual, and our reading of the Word should just be the same. When you reach the inner and spiritual meaning you will be surprised by the wonderful clearness and realistic force with which the teaching reaches your soul. Even the historical events have greater spiritual meanings in them. Some people do not care about the historical aspects of the Bible. Friends, if you are one of those, you don’t know what you are missing by ignoring such history. Some of the most marvellous mysteries of revelation are better understood by being set for us in the histories than by verbal declaration. Never undermine the historical portions of God’s word. You must understand that every word of God is given by inspiration, and is and must be profitable to you. Ask the LORD to open your eyes, that you may see wondrous things out of his word. There is not a single law in the Old Testament which has no spiritual significance. Therefore, do not ignore such books as Leviticus, Numbers, Exodus and the like – since you think they deal with tribes, places in the wilderness, the furniture in the tabernacle, lamps, precious stones, bowls, certain washings, scarlet and fine linen.
