DAY THIRTY TWO (When the Sinner Sees his Sin)! Psalm Chapter-32 Compiled by Dr. M.H. Salahshurian, Ph. D It has been said, for a man to know the intricacies of a subject, it is best to ask the expert! Someone who has had wide experience, direct personal observation and the firsthand experience of it. Here, in this psalm, it seems David is such a man to help us in this prevalent and personal matter of sin. For David himself was not only one of the greatest saints in the Scripture, he was also a great sinner! The Bible is very clear, David sinned with a high-handed rebellion and such duplicity which would have destroyed anyone one of us in no time. Except, David knew the wickedness of his own heart, he was relentless, knew how to pray, and how to get hold of God, he repented of his guilt and sin in dust and ashes over and over, and the LORD forgave him! In this short psalm of only eleven verses, three times as he is writing, he pauses and reflects using the significant word, Selah. “ There! What do you think of that?” He expresses his thankfulness in Vs. 1-4, followed by three significant word of acknowledgment, Selah. Psalm 32:1-4 “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile. When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long. For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah.” Reading the V-7 in context, it seems at the end of the verse, before David gets off his knees, he knew his prayer has been answered, for he sings his song of deliverance ( Conviction, Confession, Confidence). Then, he ends it with another, Selah. “Think about that!” David, after seducing Bathsheba, the wife of his most loyal soldier, then arranging with Joab to murder her husband, David became a hunted man! For over a year, David put up a bold front and tried to ignore the problem. During that time David was hunted at night while he was haughty by the day. Only God knew what is taking place in Davids heart. Privately, David never stopped confessing, acknowledging his sins and never stopped praying, yet he was a miserable man day and night! Privately, all through his life, David was a man after Gods own heart, and it seemed God had forgiven him, but David didnt know that for sure. Then publicly, God sent Nathan the prophet to accuse and condemn David. Nathan had a message from God, the promise of forgiveness. When David heard the promise of forgiveness, the tears of repentance started flowing like the lancing of a boil--brought immediate relief to David! Immediately, after that David wrote psalm 51 (worth your time to read it), in which he promised he would teach transgressors Gods ways, then he wrote this psalm, psalm 32. Psalm 32 is both a sermon and a song to set forth the nature of sin, what happens when sin is concealed, and when it is confessed, and conquered. Regarding this psalm, Dr. John Phillips expositorally elaborates, giving us the followings: 1- Sin Is a Defiance........................Ps. 32:1a 2- Sin Is a Defect ..........................Ps. 32:1b 3- Sin Is a Distortion......................Ps. 32:2a 4- Sin Is a Deception......................Ps. 32:2b 5- Penalty of Sin, When Sin Is Concealed.....................Ps. 32:3-4 6- Pardon of Sin, When Sin Is Confessed & Conquered...Ps. 32:5-11 Web: theswordandshield E-mail: msalahshurian@yahoo
