DEATH TOLL 15 : Situation highly tense in Assam-Nagaland border, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi visits relief camps: Uriamghat erupts in protest as Gogoi arrives venter anger against inaction by Govt. of Assam in protecting its own people Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday visited several relief camps in disturbed Uriamghat area in Golaghat district of Assam bordering Nagaland. Gogoi took stock of the situation and spoke to villagers affected in the recent incidents of violence by Naga miscreants. Several organizations protested against Gogoi’s visit to the area. Agitators showed black flags to the Chief Minister protesting his visit. Police resorted to lathicharge to disperse angry protesters at Morioni. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister blamed CRPF for the recent spurt of violence on Assam-Nagaland border. Whatever protection CRPF should have given, they could not give. That is why the violence took place and people died, Gogoi said. The death toll in firing and arson in Dhansiri in Golaghat district of Assam along the Nagaland border by alleged miscreants from Nagaland has increased to 15, sources said on Monday. All the villagers were killed by Naga miscreants by firing and arson. Several villagers were also injured in several incidents of firing. Assam-Nagaland border area has been divided into six sectors in Sivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat and Karbi Anglong districts for administrative convenience.
