DEMAND REDUCTION vs. WILDLIFE SO-CALLED TRADE : There will - TopicsExpress

DEMAND REDUCTION vs. WILDLIFE SO-CALLED TRADE : There will always be poaching - whether we legalise trade or not. Has trade helped the big cats e.g. lion, tiger, cheetah - or any other species. Lets be honest here! Its only brought them closer to extinction in the wild, whether plant, bird, animal, reptile, fish, or insect; its busy screwing up their gene pools in captivity via cross breeding, mutations, fiddling with horn, and trophy sizes etc. in order to render the killing more lucrative. This is one of the fundamental flaws (negative consequences) of Pro-trade. The thoughtless, careless manipulation of wild animals, driven by financial greed.. puts both wild, and captive bred populations (and any attempt to save them though release of degraded specimens) at risk. To government(s), and so-called Pro-traders, trade is attractive; an easy out, to escape having to work at anti-poaching by conventional means e.g. heavy sentencing, fines, and demand reduction - which should have been addressed ages ago (likewise crime - so both have now escalated beyond control), and the way for the pro-traders to cash in on a bad, bloody, idea!
