DEMOCRACY VRS MILITARY RULE: FREEDOM AND RESPONSIBILITY It is absurd to try to make any comparison between democracy and military rule in terms of advantages or benefits. The atrocities that that go with military rule is largely unacceptable. Interestingly, democracy comes with a lot of goodies. Democracy has in its trail freedom of speech, freedom f association, independence of the media, rule of law, accountable governance and a host of others. It it no gain saying that Ghanians are comfortable with democracy than military dictatorship. It is however very important to register that that democracy places a huge responsibility on us. However, it seems Ghanaians are abusing their democratic rights or better still over looking their responsibilities to the extend that ple feel it is their democratic right to decide whether to keep their surrounding clean or not. Where from this type of democrazy? Scores of people now feel that because government collect taxes from traders of satellites markets it govts responsiblity to keep the markets clean. The notion is the same for most households in Ghana. Are they right? Ple sell food by filth ridden gutters without any problem and most ple too purchase those meals and food stuffs without hesitation. Ple leave in houses engulfed by filth and seem to o.k with that. Where are the samasama( sanitary inspectors)? Was it so under Ghana,s military rule? Hahahaaaaa, who born dog? So does it ring a bell? What can we say abt that. However, this is not to suggest that military rule is better than democracy, but one is tempted to say some ideals of the M. regime were good for Ghanains? It appears the typical African demands some degree of coercion to be able to do the right thing? The diminishing authority of our traditional leaders is also partly responsible. D.C.Es and district assemblies have virtually usurp the powers of our traditional rulers meanwhile they have have not been able to correct most of the societal ills. could the traditional system of governance be given more meaning in modern day democracy? The house of chiefs seems to be the only consolation. Hmmmmmmmm. Democracy in filth is equal to democrazy.......Hahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Any way, see u in a jiffy.
