DEMOCRATIC CUM THEOCRATIC After many years of political thuggery yet it seems to be getting tougher, hotter, and dangerous. Millions of lost lives and acquaintances. Failed promises and more thieves in the field. Nigerian politics the way forward. Browsing through the archives of political and historical performances of countries in the world with their leaders and comparing it to that of Nigeria’s, you can easily say that Nigeria is cursed but in the real sense it is not affirmative. Nigeria is not a cursed nation rather the political tigers and crocodiles that call themselves our leaders are the ones truly cursed. Cursed to crave for power until their last breath. Cursed to pursue wealth and its pleasures till death. Few Nigerians still believe in the country which they come from. A country believed to have been scattered long years ago. Many citizens and non citizens of this country believe that lord lugard made a huge mistake long time ago while trying to merge the southern and northern protectorates together to form the nation NIGERIA. While many still believe that lord Lugard did the perfect thing he could ever do in his lifetime. Giant of Africa as we are been called, does not move us because all of us who are citizens of this great nation have chewed and swallowed poverty and marginalisation from our own people with great bitterness and disappointment. Come to think of it, many people from other countries come into our country loot us and make away with our resources strongly believe that it is time for a change for whosoever believes so. Although I don’t trust human beings not even me rather I believe in human beings and the positive changes they can bring not excluding me. When will this problem be over? When will people get their rightful leaders with the rightful mind and the rightful purpose? The rate of poverty and hunger inclination in Nigeria is at a very alarming rate. There is no doubt why the emigration rate is twice inversely proportional to the immigration rate. People are fleeing from this nation at a very alarming rate. Of course they have to leave to go and find greener pastures because the pastures in Nigeria are as dried as a bonga fish. Countries that we are richer than give their citizens the best they can because they understand the true meaning of leadership and democracy. Democracy in Nigeria is not as flexible as you and I think. It is more of a monarchical cum totalitarian system of government. Monarchical in the sense that the chain of power if gotten does not leave a particular lineage, party or family. From husband to wife from wife to children and so it passes on while we the ruled endure. If in the initial state it was a monarchical system of government and also as bad as it is now then I fear that there is a very tiny hope for Nigerians’ but not as big as mustard seed. In the totalitarian sense, nobody’s mind is been said at all, our leaders does the opposite of what we want both in the legislative, judicial and executive councils. Corruptions have really eaten deep into the government of Nigeria. There is a way out only if we want to truly accept it. Since democracy is not working for us very well now, in order to effect democracy, I suggest we attach another system to it. THEOCRACY – a government of priests and clergies. Thereby forming what we call the peaceful alliance and coalition of the democratic cum theocratic systems of government. I believe in this way that things can be made right. THEOCRACY – this is a pure branch on its own but in order to effect this then we must be ready to put the wrong things right. A government by peaceful people under the oath of obedience and purity should also be peaceful. Nigeria today has the highest number of churches, priests and clergies in the whole world. These churches have well contributed to the development and growth of this nation physically and spiritually with its sustainability. Even in the middle of crisis churches in Nigeria commit themselves to praying and fasting for the betterment of the country and yet they have not been allowed to harness the governing power in them. Their special spiritual abilities have made them well exposed and experienced. Unlike the high rate of secrecy in the present government, I believe that a theocratical government by the priests of God can move this country to a higher level compared to what we have now. It will surely create agility and perfection in the country. Besides there will be high rate of transparency in the system. I personally do not believe that an anointed priest of God can take what belongs to the poor and keep it for himself. Will he have the conscience to do that? Then I don’t think he can take it to anywhere not even to his family because there are precautive checks and balances fro priests and men of God. I believe that having priests in t the government will create more harmony than harm to the government. In the initial sense since priests are not married then there is no need for them storing up wealth for their children and great grand children unlike the current politicians. This is a great issue that the Christian association of Nigeria [CAN] and the catholic bishops conference of Nigeria [CBCN] and all other Christian associations in and outside the country should come together to discuss and also put up a decision for the betterment of the country. There are both young and old experienced priests who are capable of building the Nigeria of our dreams. If I should take your memory back to type of government been run in the ancient world during the time of the Roman Empire even before Christ as in the time of the books of the bible. The kings who ruled then in the bible had prophets of God attached to their regimes, prophets who bring messages from God whenever there is a decision to be made and when things gets out of hand. But this current government don’t seek advice from the priests of God then they deserted God that’s why God deserted them. They believe in surrounding themselves with more than twenty technical advisers who can’t advise them on the principles of structural flexible methods a government like ours should be governed with. A democratically cum theocratic systems of government will pave way after some years of practise for a pure democracy. When people’s opinions are respected then truly the nation Nigeria will be far much greater than it is. I believe that the peoples voices is the voice of God so its all about what the people wants. Nigeria need to enact this system because we are loosing far much than we know everyday, our investors, our dignity and so many other things even our citizens. Although there are still good politicians who are still in the country but still choosing them should be done in serious predicative way. We have all that it takes to be called the African giant the oil, mineral resources, land, human resources and others. All these things are the things we need to consider. Since we have all these then we need the appropriate set of people that can harness and give these outlined resources the maximum utilisation required to harness its efficiency and sustainability. It does not need a second thought because since 51 years ago if the right set of people have been leading us well, then what stops us from being like Egypt, south Africa, Angola and other more developed countries in Africa. What stops us from being like USA, china, Brazil, Japan, Italy and other world countries? The so called recent peoples Democratic Party cannot take us an inch to the future great Nigeria we dream of everyday .the bad blood and set of old weary politicians craving for power and wealth can’t realise our dreams for us. Recently, there are so many pressing issues ink Nigeria that needs to be tackled as a matter of exigency. Problems of insecurity, bad roads, poor education and health and so many others. Since 1960 we have been asking ourselves why our problems still persists but answer is right there waiting to be seen. Since Nigeria is a blessed nation with many opportunities and potentials then it is very clear that the right sets of people are not on seat. We have to put things right immediately, we have to stand and fight for the cause we believe in. There is no later, there is no waiting the time to act is now. Let us all give the clergies a chance to take us to the Promised Land. Let them give us a good taste of living unlike the hell we are living in now. Priests are powerful, clergies are awesome, and they should be given a chance to stop corruption and backwardness which our past and present leaders are bringing on us. If we really want to curb this political ugly menace of incessant looting and illegal exploration of our resources by our own people, by our so called politicians. Although there are still good and trusted politicians that still have the people in mind, speaking of which two them are the industrious , capable men of the people the executive governors of imo state, Gov Rochas okorocha and Gov Godswill akpabio of awka ibom state of Nigeria these men who have recreated their menial states into world mega cities. The Rochas of imo state who awarded all roads in his state and gave free education to all indigenes of imo from primary, secondary to the university levels of education. Because of these wonders he has won the hearts of many people both indigenes and non-indigenes of imo state. He is a typical example of the type of politician that can be compared to a clergy because of his outstanding qualities of transparency, trustworthiness and commitment. If politicians like him can form part of the government with the clergies, then there is no doubt that Nigeria will go higher even to attain the level of world power countries. In conclusion, I will have to say that I am not a clergyman nor a priest rather am just a young citizen who is aspiring for good governance in my fatherland. When things get better in this nation then our brothers in the Diaspora can then find good reasons to come home and find good jobs for themselves here in Nigeria. Of course you and I desire good governance, our children does also. Why can’t we push up a motion like this in the national house of assembly for it to be treated and enacted from bill to law in the legislative council? It is possible, let us believe and do it for the good of this nation for if we truly believe in God then we must believe in his priests and prophets. I URGE EVERY READER OF THIS ARTICLE TO MEDITATE AND THINK OF THIS ISSUE WITH CONTEMPT. With all that have been happening this year insecurity, corruption, bribery, insincerity, I believe we really need a change in the style of leadership.
